There are many of places of interest to visit, either by hire car, or organised tour. Some of the most popular include:

Island Tour

A tour of the Island is a must, taking in the sights as you go. There are fantastic rock formations around the coast, and beautiful beaches (some deserted) and waterfalls. There are first rate organised tours available.

The Big (Seated) Buddha  (Phra Yai)

To the north of the Island is the incredible seated Buddha, some 15 metre high. This landmark was built in 1972 to give visitors a place to pay respects to the Lord Buddha.

 

 Chinese Temple ( Goddess Zhoa Mei Guan Im)

A small but beautiful temple, located on the shore in the South west part.

Buddha Footprints

This takes a bit of getting to, but is worth the effort. It is located on a hillside near the Butterfly Gardens, and has a wonderful view of the Island.

Hin Lad Waterfall Temple 

This is a calm and peaceful temple, with beautiful gardens lovingly tended by the resident monks. A perfect place for a few minutes of quiet contemplation. It is located near Nathon.

Pagoda Khoa Chedi

This is a lovely golden Pagoda built on a hillside in Laem Sor.

Namuang Waterfalls

There are two waterfalls, and are the most spectacular on Koh Samui. The first is 18 metres high, and the second is over 80 metres. The surrounding scenery is fantastic. They are located six miles south of Nathon.

 Hin Ta-Hin Ya Rocks

A collection of naughtily shaped rocks, situated at South Lamai. Not for children.

The Ancient House

The oldest house on the Island, built of teak without the use of nails. Contains many beautiful woodcarvings.

Butterfly Park

Situated in the south of the island, there is a large collection of butterflies. There is also a bee house, and an exhibition of insects.

Snake Farm

Not for the squeamish, the Snake Farm has a large display of snakes indigenous to Koh Samui, and a collection of scorpions.

 Thai Boxing

This is the national sport of Thailand. There are boxing matches on Monday, Friday and Saturday each week.

 

Elephant Trekking

There is a collection of elephants, originally brought over from the mainland, who entertain tourists by taking short trekking trips. The kids love it.

Fishing Trips

Fishing trips are extremely popular. Fishing rods and other equipment will be provided, as well as food and drink.

Turtle Island

This is the common name given to Koh Tao, a quiet, largely undeveloped island some 2 hours by boat from Koh Samui. It is a paradise for snorkelers and well worth a visit.

 

 Koh Ping-gan

This was made famous by the James Bond film ”The Man With The Golden Gun”. There are regular ferries to the landmark, and a trip is very enjoyable.

Ko Pha-Ngan

This is a very pretty island, just 30 minutes from Koh Samui by boat. A laid back, small, Island with a heavily forested interior, this is definitely worth a day trip. Refreshments are available, including very cheap and delicious Thai food, and copius supplies of Thai Singha beer. There is bungalow accomodation if you want to stay overnight.

Island Trips

There are many private boat firms offering leisurely sea trips and visits to neighbouring islands. Food and drink will be provided. A lovely, leisurely way to spend a day. There are also public ferries going from Nathon Pier to various locations.

Golf

Koh Samui has one 18 hole Golf course, at the Santiburi Samui Country Club. The course is 18 holes, par 72.

The course is well designed, slightly hilly, and makes for an enjoyable change from the beach. It is located in the northern part of the Island, just a short taxi ride. Just turn up, the club house has all you need for rental, including shoes. Green fees are around £70.

Boput  Hills Golf Club

This is 9 hole course, with caddies provided. There is also a water ball feature, which is great fun for the whole family.
